It is with great pleasure that we announce that one of our own, Barbara Prichard has been shortlisted among the 127 Finalists in the National Capital Art Prize for 2022. The artwork is entitled “Habitat Weeping” of which Barbara has a description of the work below. Please take the opportunity to vote for in the peoples choice by clicking here.
Congratulations Barbara. I hope to convey my connection to and love for the Australian bushland which has suffered so much from fire, logging, and climate change. The silk textiles I have used are reclaimed offcuts from garments I have made, and these have been embedded into a stretched recycled net background then stiffened in part with natural solutions. I have used traditional and contemporary dyeing techniques to extract colour and leaf prints from windfalls left by trees I have planted. My aim is to present the beauty of nature and the poetry within the Australian landscape.

Barbara Pritchard: Artists Statement
While installing my last exhibition, Burnt Offerings, at Gallery 294 a visually impaired customer came in and I suggested to her that she touch the unframed artwork in that exhibition. I found her experience very moving and resolved to produce a body of work that would at least be partly available to touch. This collection of soft sculptural works was informed by that meeting. My dedication to repurposed textiles which are transformed into artworks is evident in this exhibition and all materials used have had a previous life as loved clothing or belongings. The forms have been inspired by my surrounds in the mountain and the natural landscape in which I live and work in the Upper Murray. This would have to be one of the best retrospectives that we have had with a lot of art taking us back down memory lane. Only the best of the best for this one. Our April exhibition will be the friends and members Autumn Exhibition. For those wishing to enter works, please have them delivered to the gallery before the 22nd of March. Please click here for the entry form. Opening will be on Saturday the 26th of March between 10am and 2pm. All welcome.
Congratulations Debbie Cooper and Rhonda Wheeler on their exhibition "Lens and Easel" currently running at the gallery until March 16th. The exhibition includes wonderful animal and landscape works using photography, sketches and paintings. Don't miss the opportunity to see this exhibition before it closes. Welcome back everyone to a new year at Gallery 294. We kick off with a fantastic new body of work from Glenda Mackay called "Geometric", an exhibition of assemblages, collage and painting. Glenda plays around with shapes and forms creating wonderful mixed media pieces. The exhibition will finish on the 15th of February so make sure you take the time to see it before its closed.
Galley 294 will be closed from December 22nd until the 13th of January when we will be opening up again with new exhibitions from two of our members, Barbara Pritchard and Glenda Mackay. Barbara's exhibition will be called "Summer Silks" and will include eco dyed frocks, blouses, and scarfs in pure silks. Glenda's is called "Geometric" and will be mixed media assemblages and paper works. Merry Christmas and we here at Gallery 294 look forward to seeing you all again in the New Year.
Gallery 294 is the perfect place for that special individual handcrafted Christmas gift or decoration. You might even find something special for yourself!
